Test Taking Advice
Welcome to the Test Taking Advice page! This page is designed to ease your worries when it comes to taking the SAT/ACT tests.
Here is some advice from teachers and students for the night before the test and the actual test day.
- DO NOT STAY UP LATE STUDYING THE NIGHT BEFORE
- Go to bed early. Even if you are not sleeping well, your body and mind are at least resting.
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- DO NOT SPEND ALL OF YOUR TIME WATCHING THE CLOCK. IT WILL ONLY STRESS YOU OUT. Make occasional checks every 10-15 or so problems, but do not check every time you complete something. It is just a waste of time.
- Thoroughly read the questions and any readings. DO NOT JUST SPEED THROUGH THEM. If you do not take the time to read the questions, there is a higher chance that you will misundertand them.
- Stay as calm as you can. If you stress about every question, then you will be more likely to make errors and therefore get the questions wrong.
- Make educated guesses. Only skip questions that you cannot guess on. Multiple choice questions have either a 1 in 4 or a 1 in 5 chance of being correct when you guess. Skipping the question means that you will for sure miss the question. You will not loose points for getting a question wrong.
- Try to eliminate two of the options that seem the most wrong on multiple choice questions. It you can manage to remove some of these options, you can get it down to about a 50/50 chance of getting the question right rather than a 25% chance.
- Limit your time on questions. Based off of the time limit for the section, guesstimate how long you can spend on each question. If you can't figure it out in that amount of time, just guess.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!
